EDWARD BARNES                   Producer-Composer




EDWARD BARNES is the producer and/or composer of over 50 works of opera and musical theater.  He is currently the Producing Director of The Collegiate Chorale in New York City. 

Producer:  For NYC's The Collegiate Chorale, he recently produced the acclaimed semi-staged concert version of THE MIKADO, starring Kelli O'Hara, Jason Danieley, Victoria Clark, Chuck Cooper and Christopher Fitzgerald, seen in May 2012 at Carnegie Hall.  Last season he produced both the concert and live cast album (for Ghostlilght/Sh-K-Boom Records) of Kurt Weill and Maxwell Anderson's KNICKERBOCKER HOLIDAY at Lincoln Center, starring Kelli O'Hara and Victor Garber.  Other Collegiate Chorale projects include Ricky Ian Gordon and Michael Korie's opera, THE GRAPES OF WRATH, starring Jane Fonda, at Carnegie Hall in NYC; the Kurt Weill-Ira Gershwin operetta, THE FIREBRAND OF FLORENCE, at Lincoln Center;  Philip Glass' opera, THE JUNIPER TREE, at Jazz @ Lincoln Center; and a concert version of 1600 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE, by Leonard Bernstein and Alan Jay Lerner.  Additional producing credits include Tracy Letts' play, SUPERIOR DONUTS, on Broadway; YOU ARE HERE, for NyLon Fusion Collective in NYC; A CHRISTMAS CAROL, for Spoken Word American and Night Kitchen Radio Theater;  MAS ALLA DEL TIEMPO and PRESENTAMOS, at the Teatro Maipu in Buenos Aires;  and THE BONES OF LOVE and OLD AUNT DINAH'S SURE GUIDE TO DREAMS & LUCKY NUMBERS, for the Metro Ensemble in L.A.

Composer:  Edward's work has been seen at the Los Angeles Opera, Mark Taper Forum, Minnesota Opera, Seattle Opera, Opera Company of Boston, American Repertory Theater, Children's Theater Company of Minneapolis, Lincoln Center Theater Company, San Frnacisco Mime Troupe, Houston Grand Opera and many more.  He is the winner of a Guggenheim Fellowship, NEA and NYFA Fellowships, and the Stephen Sondheim Award for the "creation of innovative musical theater."
